Auditions will be held on Saturday 7th November 2009. Each applicant will have one audition.

We are looking for pupils who demonstrate a particular capacity to learn or demonstrate a particular capacity to develop skills in Dance, Drama and Music and who will benefit from the particular expertise and facilities of Abbs Cross School and Arts College.

Dance

Applicants will be invited to take part in a demonstration lesson where a simple dance routine will be demonstrated and practised. Each applicant will then dance that routine individually before a member of the Dance Department. Each applicant will then be marked on a number of technical aspects of their performance including those listed below:-

Technical:
  • Posture
  • Body control
  • Extension
  • Energy
  • Flexibility
  • Spatial awareness
  • Balance
  • Co-ordination
Expression:
  • Projection towards audience
  • Sense of rhythm
  • Facial expression
  • Focus/eye line

Drama

Applicants will be assessed individually. They will be read a dramatic scenario and given a certain amount of time to prepare a solo performance of that scenario. They will then perform for a member of the Drama staff. Each applicant will then be marked on a number of technical aspects of their performance including those listed below:-

  • Facial expression
  • Body language
  • Voice—Projection/Volume/Timbre
  • Use of gesture
  • Use of space/levels
  • Characterisation

Music

Applicants will be asked to respond to a series of musical prompts assessing their aptitude in music. These will take the form of standard aural tests. Such responses will assess an applicant’s aptitude in the following:-

  • Pitch
  • Rhythm
  • Aural memory
  • Dynamics
